The game uses randomly generated content, creating a vast virtual world. All progress made by the hero in the dungeons is reset upon exiting. They cannot be cleared as enemies continuously respawn. Any loot dropped in the locations disappears upon exiting, making carrying capacity an important characteristic.
The world consists of hundreds of cities with realistic designs and businesses. There are several hundred secondary and 17 quest dungeons available. Due to the immense size of the world, fast travel is crucial. It can take up to 10 hours of real-time to reach the nearest city, and several days to reach a remote province. The storyline is influenced by day-night cycles, with people leaving the streets at night and monsters roaming the cities.
The game is played from a first-person perspective. In combat, the character uses weapons and magic. There is the ability to pickpocket people on the streets and break into shops at night.
The main quest is completed by passing through 17 dungeons and collecting the Staff of Chaos, but there are also other tasks. It is easy to die at the start as powerful enemies are encountered. However, this effect gradually diminishes as the hero becomes stronger and better equipped.
