Death Stranding is an action game with an open world. It is developed by Kojima Productions. The game was released by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 4 console. This game is the first for Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions after their relationship with Konami ended in 2015. Actors Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Lea Seydoux, Lindsey Wagner, and Troy Baker were involved in the creation of this product. Additionally, director Guillermo del Toro and Nicolas Winding Refn served as models for characters in the game.
If we focus on the gameplay, the main events take place in a post-apocalyptic future on the territory that used to be the United States of America. This state was destroyed as a result of an invasion by ghostly creatures from another world. Starting the game, the player takes control of a character who is a regular courier named Sam, voiced by Norman Reedus. He is a post-apocalyptic mailman.
His task is to cross the continent to establish communication between two isolated settlements. In Death Stranding, the game combines free exploration of an entirely open world, where the player has to find their own way to the next objective, and extended cinematic cutscenes created using motion capture technology on the game’s engine.
The gameplay in Death Stranding involves transporting valuable packages that need to be moved from one settlement to another. During transportation, the player must avoid losing or damaging the entrusted cargo. The game features unique mechanics for traversing rugged terrain, which are well-developed. These mechanics are complemented by elements of asynchronous multiplayer gameplay.
